Education

One of the benefits of being involved in a surf club is the ability to learn skills that assist not only the club in meeting its requirements to patrol but are also invaluable life skills that benefit the individual and community as a whole.

Each year TSLSC runs a Bronze Camp for youth (under 18 years of age) which is a residential program, with participants staying at the club for the course duration (5-6 days). Anyone can undertake the bronze course, lifesaving experience is not a pre-requisite. However, participants must have an above average swimming proficiency which may be required to be pre-tested by a certified instructor.

In addition, TSLSC runs an annual Surf Rescue Certificate for 13-15 year olds, which upon successful completion, participants are eligible to be involved in the volunteer patrol season. Again, no lifesaving experience is required, but an above-average swimming proficiency is mandatory.

Other education opportunities run by TSLSC during the lifesaving season can include First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation, IRB Crew and Driver Awards, Silver Medallion and other lifesaving related learning. Importantly, all education at TSLSC is made possible through volunteers, and all members wishing to enrol must be financial for the current season.
